A mini session is a short, focused photography experience designed to capture authentic moments without the commitment of a full day shoot. At KRISTIE Montrois, we specialize in these relaxed, connection-driven portraits that prioritize natural family interaction over rigid posing. Think of it as an opportunity to document the feeling of your family right now, the laughter, the cuddles, the in-between moments, without needing hours of your time.
Fall is the ideal season for mini sessions. The golden hour light is longer and more forgiving. The foliage creates natural, warm backgrounds. And families are thinking about updated portraits for holiday cards and gifts for grandparents. A mini session gives you polished, professional images in 20 minutes, making it perfect for busy families who want beautiful results without the production.
Mini sessions solve a real problem: families want professional portraits but hesitate to commit to a full day. A shorter timeframe means less stress, especially with young children. Kids stay engaged. Parents relax. The energy stays high and authentic.
Here’s what families gain from this approach:
The relaxed nature of a mini session often produces better results than longer shoots. Families aren’t exhausted. Kids haven’t melted down. Everyone’s genuine energy comes through in the photographs.
Your clothing choices set the tone for how your family looks in images. Fall offers a natural color palette that works with the landscape, so you have real flexibility here.

Styling tips that work:
Comfort matters. If your toddler is uncomfortable in their outfit, that discomfort shows. Dress in clothes your family would actually wear, then choose colors that complement the fall setting.
Children perform better when they know what to expect. A few simple steps before your session reduce anxiety and increase genuine smiles.
Preparation steps:
Talk about it casually, Mention the session as something fun, not a big deal. “We’re going to play outside while someone takes pictures” works better than “You need to smile perfectly.”
Avoid over-scheduling, Don’t schedule the session right after a long day or close to naptime. A well-rested child is a cooperative child.
Plan a small reward, Not a bribe, but something to look forward to afterward. A trip to the park or a favorite snack gives them something positive to anticipate.
Keep it light beforehand, Don’t stress about hair and makeup. Natural, slightly messy often looks better and feels more authentic.
Bring comfort items if needed, A favorite stuffed animal or blanket can help anxious kids feel secure without appearing in photos.
Let them move, Tell kids it’s okay to run, jump, and be silly. Movement creates genuine expressions and energy.
Manage expectations, Explain that not every photo will be perfect, and that’s fine. This reduces pressure on everyone.
The goal isn’t perfect stillness. It’s capturing your family as you actually are, connected, laughing, comfortable with each other.
Our fall mini sessions are designed for families who want beautiful portraits without the full-day commitment. Here’s exactly what you’re booking.
We offer sessions at three scenic locations across the region, each chosen for natural fall light and beautiful foliage backdrops. Each location has different terrain and accessibility features, so choosing the right one depends on your family’s needs.
Robin Hill Park, October 3, 4:00-7:00 PM
This location offers open meadows with mature trees and soft, rolling terrain.
Schenley Park, October 11, 4:00-7:00 PM
Hartwood Acres, October 25, 4:00-7:00 PM
All sessions run from 4:00-7:00 PM, with the last session starting at 6:30 PM. This timing captures golden hour light, which is ideal for warm, flattering portraits. Golden hour, the period shortly before sunset, creates soft, directional light that minimizes harsh shadows and adds a warm glow to skin tones. In early October, sunset occurs around 6:45 PM, so sessions starting at 6:30 PM will capture the final, most dramatic light of the day.
Your 20-minute session includes movement, laughter, and genuine connection. We focus on capturing how your family actually interacts, not stiff poses.
What’s included:

Practical tips:
Beyond holiday cards, mini-session images work beautifully for gifts. Grandparents often treasure printed portraits. Consider:
Your session day is intentionally low-pressure. Arrive a few minutes early so kids can get comfortable with the location. We’ll chat briefly about what you’re hoping for, then we start moving and playing.

A fall mini session is a 20-minute photography experience that captures natural family moments, laughter, cuddles, and in-between connections. You receive 10 edited digital images, and the session accommodates up to 6 family members. It’s designed to be relaxed and connection-driven rather than heavily posed, making it ideal for families who want beautiful portraits without committing to a full-length session.
Arrive a few minutes early so everyone can settle in. Coordinate outfits ahead of time using fall color palettes that complement the golden hour light and seasonal foliage. Brief children on what to expect, explain that you’ll be moving around, laughing, and having fun rather than standing still. Avoid overscheduling the day of the shoot so everyone feels relaxed and present. Bring water and any comfort items for young children.
Mini sessions remove the pressure and time commitment of longer shoots while still delivering beautiful, edited images for holiday cards, updated family portraits, and gifts for grandparents. They’re perfect for families who want quality portraits without a full day of scheduling, and the relaxed 20-minute format often feels less staged, allowing natural connection and movement to shine through.
Your 10 edited digital images are yours to use for holiday cards, social media, prints, and gifts. Many families select their favorite 1-3 images for holiday cards, print larger formats for grandparents, or create digital albums to share with extended family. The quick turnaround and high-resolution files make it easy to order prints or cards shortly after your session.
