One of my favorite ways to start a wedding day is with photos of your wedding details! It’s the best way I’ve found to warm up my creative side for the rest of the day. I photograph a couple’s details in a way that matches and showcases the style of the entire wedding day. So, in some ways, the details set the stage for the look of the whole wedding and I love having ample time to stylize the little things that collectively “set the scene” for the day!

Organizing Items in Advance

You’ll have enough to think about as your wedding date gets closer, so I recommend collecting these items in one place, as you go throughout the planning process. Keep reading to get a wedding details checklist!! You can use it as a starting point to make your own. It’s sooo fun to document the small things that make your day unique and personal to you. From every blossom in your bouquet, to the lipstick color that compliments your eyes perfectly, the details of your wedding day all help tell your special love story!! About a month before your wedding, make a wedding details checklist of everything you think should be included in your wedding detail pics. The week before your wedding, put everything in a shoebox or small container! Most of the details should fit in a small box, but if there’s anything that doesn’t (your veil, shoes, bouquet, etc.) just make sure it’s in close proximity to the rest of the stuff. It’s super helpful to give your wedding details checklist to your wedding planner or maid of honor, along with that box! Then they can hand everything off to me when I arrive at the getting ready location. The less you have to think about on the day of your wedding, the better, am I right?? BONUS TIP: Your rings are alwaysss gonna be in your wedding detail shots. Make sure your maid of honor knows to get your rings back to the best man before the ceremony!

Bridal Details

Gather your bridal details together before wedding day. Most items besides the wedding gown and veil will fit into a tote bag or small box. Having everything grouped together (with tags removed from jewelry!) will save a lot of time. It takes quite a bit of time to style and photograph the bridal details. If you have to search for the items when the photographer arrives, you’ll eat into the time for photographing those special items. Getting a photo of the bridesmaid dresses hanging can be particularly time consuming if the dresses aren’t already steamed, hanging on the matching hangers and in one place. It’s even better if they’re already hanging in a room with a lot of natural light as these blue dresses were! If you’re not getting matching hangers for your bridesmaid dresses, I will typically only photograph the bride’s gown hanging in order to save time for the other details.

Groom Details

Grooms can have special details too! Groom details typically include: the boutonniere, cuff links (if they are personal or custom), the tie, a watch and sometimes the shoes. If the bride and groom are getting ready at the same location, I will photograph all the details at the same time.
